| 『Sweet Things』に収録されている“The Whole World's Shakin'”のオリジナルは、Sam Cookeによってかの“Shake”と同日の64年11月16日に吹き込まれています。どうやらこのセッションは、Samの生前最後の録音となってしまったようです（彼が亡くなったのが同年12月10日）。初めて世に出たのは、おそらく死後の65年に発表されたアルバム『Shake』のはず。 ジョージィはRufas ThomasとMar-Keysの2曲のSTAXナンバーに挟まれた収録位置にふさわしく、オリジナルよりもピッチを上げてキレ味鋭くキメています。『Live At The Harlem Square Club』から想像するに、もしSamが生きていたら、ライブではきっとこれぐらいアグレッシブなアレンジで唄いまくっていたことでしょうね。 ちなみにこのコンピレーションは、アルバム『Night Beat』以降のSamのスタジオでの姿を捉えたもの、という位置づけのよう。Arthur Conley“Sweet Soul Music”の元ネタとなった［11］も収録されています。【K】 |
